Party Drinks Estimator

Getting your guests into the right party spirit often first requires getting the right spirits in to your party guests. If you hire a party venue which does not have its own bar you will have to source all the drinks yourself. At parties most people may aim to get a bit merry but will normally drink well within their limits. However some parties are wilder than others, so the the quantities of drinks we suggest should only be used for the purposes of giving you a rough estimate of the drinks you require.

If its a hot day even a light drinker is going to drink more, and if many of your guests are children, then lots more soft drinks will be needed. As a rough guide most people will drink about 4 to 6 cans of beer or between about a half to a full bottle of wine during a 4 hour party ( see table below). Based on average drinking rate for 25 guests during a four hour party all drinking the same thing.

Beer/ Lager Wine Spirits Soft Drinks
100-150 cans 15-30bottles 6 -10 bottles 15-30 litres

However your guests will not want to drink all the same thing so your drinks table should host a spread of different drinks. A more typical example of the amounts of each item required would be

Beer/ Lager Wine Spirits Soft Drinks
70-120 cans 10-12 bottles 4 bottles 10 -15 litres

If your party is a teetotal Church social or a stag night where every one aims to get sloshed then quantities should be scaled up or down accordingly.

Please remember some of your guests will spend less than 4 hours at your party and your guests will not all be drinking the same thing. At the end of your party you should expect lots of half finished drinks, so you will need to buy more than people will actually consume. Its also a good idea to make sure you can get any unopened cans or bottles home after the party.

If you are counting costs its best to keep it simple and most people are happy with just a choice of beer/lager and red and white wine. Forget the aggro of a booze cruise both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks can be purchased in the weeks up to your party cheaply from the supermarket. Take full advantage of all those two for one deals and 50% off etc and as long as you can resist the temptation you can save a fortune. Its also a good idea to have the address of a local off licence handy, just in case you underestimate things.
